I was on my way to class on Tuesday evening when someone stop me. This guy, let's call him Adam is a typical looking native from Borneo. How I know? Well, I did spend 3 years during my Uni years in Borneo.
Speaking in fluent English, he was desperately asking for directions to KLIA... using bus. Errr... I've never even on bus in KL so I told him I'm new here. So goes the conversation as below:
Adam: How can I get to KLIA using bus?
Me: I'm sorry but I'm not sure. I'm new here.
note: usually I would avoid stranger and ignore them but I magically stop to listen to him
Adam: How about the train?
Me: I'm sorry that I'm not really sure of that either. Maybe you can ask the direction at the train station. It's just walking distance from here.
note: Why do I keep on apologizing.. wonder why...
Adam: Well, you see, I'm not sure if you believe me or not... I'm actually a tourist from Sabah. I'm on holiday here and I just got separated from my tour group. They are now heading towards KLIA to catch the flight home.
Me: So, how can I help you?
Adam: My luggage is on the bus. And so does my wallet and my handphone. That damn tourist guide forget to wait for me and the group just left without me.
Me: Ok..
note: Sound a bit fishy.. Who the hell will leave their handphone and wallet on the bus.
Adam: I have only RM11 with me right now and I need to get to KLIA asap. Can you borrow me some money?
Me: .....
note: I just keep quiet and listen.
Me: Ok. So how much do you need?
Adam: How much do you have?
note: The fish is getting bigger and bigger
Me: I only have about RM10 with me now
Adam: That is still not enough. Do you have someone that you can borrow money from? I need it now as my plane is departing soon.
note: Of course I have more than RM10 with me. I have RM15. Hahaha...
Me: Err...
Adam: Please... Please.. It's really urgent. I promise you to pay back when I reach Sabah. You must really trust me.
Me: I'm really sorry that I need that RM10 to return home. I need to pay for the train ticket as well as my dinner.
Adam: So, do you have ATM card? Can you withdraw the money from ATM?
note: this is already smelling like a whale
Me: I'm really sorry but I cant help you. I would but I cant. I'm really sorry ya
Adam: But it is really urgent. You really have to trust me...
note: Why do I have to keep on apologizing?
Me: I trust you. However, it is out of my ability right now. Maybe you can speak to someone from the train station to work something out.
Adam: But.. But... Okla okla. I'll find someone else
And he's off. Maybe cursing me under his breath. $##@^&$
So what do you all think? Should I or should I not help him? I would but I can't find any possible solid reason for me to trust him. He might be telling the truth, but again, I'm just taking safety precautions. I'm as poor as I can be right now. Sob.. Sob...
